Our Story

 We decided to start this company to tackle the great need for affordable housing across the globe. In our journey, we recognized that affordable housing was both a technical issue and a financial issue. We realized that we needed to create products that were more cost effective, and provide financing options that made housing more attainable. 

Tackling the Affordable Housing Crisis

In the modern era, real estate markets throughout the world have taken off. While it is great to see beautiful luxurious properties popping up everywhere, the downside is that the property prices have become unaffordable for the average global citizen.  

We decided to start our efforts in Accra, Ghana, which recently become the second most expensive city in the world when comparing average income to average housing costs. In addition, it also has a very young population that’s continuing to grow quickly and create an even greater need for affordable housing.

In studying this problem we realized that the issues that needed to be tackled were multi-faceted. Firstly, the market was overly fixated on creating large grandiose houses that the average person did not need. Secondly, in many African countries including Ghana, there is an almost total reliance on concrete based building structures. And thirdly, interest rates from the banks were astronomically high and essentially made housing even more unattainable for most people. Therefore we decided to create a minimalistic design using alternative building materials, and bring financing in house with zero – interest payment plans and Rent-To-Own contracts. 

Versatility

Our homes are built with versatility and problem solving in mind.  The flexibility of the design allows these houses to fit a number of use cases such as housing for temporary work forces, mobile health clinics, rooms at resorts & villas, office spaces, student hostels and more. On top of that, our homes are made to be mobile, so if you want to move to a new location, you can bring your house with you. 

A solution for Land Disputes

In our initial territory of Accra and in other developing countries, land disputes can be a major issue. Due to flaws with the land registration and legal systems in these countries, there are situations where the ownership of a piece of land is disputed. In many cases, houses built on these disputed lands are demolished during these conflicts. There are also issues of encroachment, which tend to occur when someone tries to take ownership of a piece of land that has not been developed but has been purchased by another party. The mobility of our homes creates a potential solution for both scenarios. Instead of a home on disputed land being demolished, it can simply be moved away. In cases where encroachment may be imminent, a home can be placed on the land as a deterrent to encroachers. 

 

 

What is The Complete Mobile Pod?

The Complete Mobile Pod is a studio style home unit with a floor space of 25 square meters. It consists of:

•   a porch
•   a mini hall/living area

•   a kitchen
•   a bathroom

•   a sleeping area

•   a porch

The idea for this unit was inspired by make shift structures mostly found in the low income areas of Ghana called “kiosks.”
These structures are typically made of wood and/or aluminum and are used as affordable shelter for homes or small businesses.
The affordability and usability of this housing style inspired us to develop a more enhanced and aesthetically pleasing version
while still keeping the cost low.

Efficient Build Time

We design all of our units with optimal building speed in mind. We use materials and a building method that is less time and labor intensive than traditionally used methods, and due to this, our homes can be built in less than 90 days.
